December Delight #22

Today I am grateful for something silly: my mismatched no sense of proportion or cohesion winter village. I have no idea how it even got started, just some assorted buildings that one year I decided to put on the sideboard and the village was born.

Because I love the movie “A Christmas Story” my friend sent me this little figurine of Flick with his tongue stuck to the pole. He suits the village perfectly.

Our first new building addition in a long time, the Lego Toy Shoppe.

Why yes, that is an elephant pulling a sleigh through the village.

I have no idea why this display makes me so happy but it does and I am always grateful for an involuntary grin of happiness.

  1. I LOVE your Christmas village! My mother had one that was all mismatched, made mostly with things from the dollar store. Then one of her grandchildren started giving her good stuff every year. I had my own mismatched village for a few years, but I got too much stuff and don’t have a good place to put it. However, you have inspired me. Next year I WILL find a place for my village! Merry Christmas!

    1. The key is to keep it small. I only had the three buildings for years and only added a 4th this year. Maybe you could spread it out in a few places? Merry Christmas to you too! I can’t believe how soon it is!

      1. Spreading it out is a good idea, since I’ve already got too many pieces to keep it small. Ah, plans for next year will alleviate my post-Christmas letdown (which seems to come earlier every year; I may have to write a blog post about that)

      2. We celebrate the whole 12 days of Christmas ending with Epiphany on Jan 6th with a hike (simulating the journey of the Magi), three last gifts and Mediterranean food for dinner. By then I am ready for Christmas to be over!
